Custom homes, considered to the last detail.

D’Ascanio Mellor Architecture is the residential practice of Julie D’Ascanio — new homes, additions, and renovations carried from first sketch through construction across Maryland, Virginia, and Colorado.

A shingle-style residence with cedar shake siding, a deep wraparound porch and a second-floor balcony, set among mature trees on Gibson Island, Maryland.

The Practice

One architect, from first sketch to final walk-through.

Julie D’Ascanio designs custom homes, additions, and renovations — and stays with each one from the first conversation through construction. As project manager and principal architect she develops the design alongside the owners, then sees it built: coordinating civil and structural engineers, county approvals, and trades, and managing the finish work down to hands-on construction where it counts.

The work is site-led and quietly traditional — a sloped Chesapeake lot that keeps its trees, an accessible single-storey home that reads as a cottage, a French Gothic stair with a dragon cast into its newel post. Each house answers to how its owners actually live, and to the ground it stands on.
